Hotel Mike and His Warriors! What a strange name for a chapter I though as I leafed through the book.
It turns out that the chapter Hotel Mike and His Warriors is about the ULFA BODO conflict of 2003. And was it a gripping read.

4th of October, 2005. I was guiding for an American couple who had just gotten married. We were on the Laya Lingshi trek, camped at Chebisa, a small beautiful village 5 hours from Lingshi. That day we were supposed to cross the Goku La (4350m), but when we woke up in the morning, we were covered in snow. It had been a wet trek since we crossed Chomolhari 3 days back, and to wake up again with snow falling heavy was not something all of us were looking forward to. Our boots were wet, sleeping bags were damp, and we were running out of dry clothes. It was so tempting that day to call for a break, and somehow make up for the lost day along our trek. I join my fellow countrymen in celebrating His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk’s 29th birth anniversary by sharing this very touching picture of His Majesty. This picture was taken at Simtokha, on the 2nd of November, 2008, during the Royal Procession from Punakha to Thimphu, during the Coronation. His Majesty spent time with this elderly nun, as she offered her prayers, and well wishes.

“I enjoy talking to you all not just because it is my duty but because we will be starting our lives together and ending our careers together. When we retire 20 or 30 years later, let us pass on the country proudly into younger hands. Our responsibilities, country, goals and fates are the same. We will see each other grow old, and more importantly, we will see each other become wiser, more capable, more intelligent and we will see each other serve our country. I pray that you will serve yourselves, your parents and family as well as the country capably and with dedication. I wish you all Tashi Delek.”
